Võ Văn Chung, born in 2013, is currently a 5th-grade student at Phụng Hiệp Primary School. He lost his mother when he was just 3 years old, and his father has since remarried. Chung now lives with his grandparents, both over 80 years old, and his 17-year-old brother. His brother had to drop out of school five years ago to work at a restaurant, earning just over 3 million VND (111 euros) per month. His grandfather is frail and hard of hearing, while his grandmother is visually impaired. The family relies on the kindness of their neighbors and local government assistance. Occasionally, Chung’s brother sends 500,000 VND (19 euros) to buy rice and other necessities for the family.
Chung’s father, who has a family of his own, is unable to offer much help, only occasionally buying food and taking his parents to the hospital when needed. Every day, Chung rides his bicycle more than 3 kilometers to school. Outside of school hours, he wakes up early to cook, catch fish, and collect snails to help prepare meals for his grandparents. Despite the challenging circumstances, Chung continues to excel in his studies, consistently achieving excellent academic results for many years. He dreams of studying hard so he can secure a stable job in the future and take care of his family.
