Thouen is a 5th-grade student at Samroung Primary School in Romdoul district. She comes from a very poor family and lives with her single mother and her two younger siblings since her parents divorced three years ago.
Her family does not own any land for rice cultivation. Their main source of income comes from her mother, who works as a construction laborer. However, this job is seasonal—available only about six months a year—and paid by the day. Each project typically lasts two to three months, after which she must wait for the team leader to find a new job site. The work is irregular and unreliable.
In addition, her mother is not in good health and sometimes has to miss work, which means they have no income during those times.
On average, the family earns only about €14 per person per month, which is not enough to support Thouen’s education. To stay in school, Thouen needs basic learning materials such as books, pens, a ruler, a school bag, and a uniform. She also needs to attend extra classes, which cost around €22 per month.
Thouen is now seeking support of €9 per month to help cover these essential school expenses and allow her to continue her education.
