Ms. Truc, born in 1988, currently lives in Thon 1, Duc Hanh Commune. Her family is facing significant economic hardship and consists of four members. Ms. Truc’s aunt (her mother’s sister) is deaf and mute and also suffers from goiter. She is in poor health and is currently undergoing treatment in accordance with medical advice.
The family borrows 2,000m2 of rice fields from Ms. Truc’s mother for cultivation. This is their main source of livelihood, but income remains very limited. After deducting production costs, the annual net income from rice farming is approximately 9,000,000 VND (around USD 346 per year).
During the off-farming season, Ms. Truc’s husband works as a casual laborer, taking on any available jobs for local households. However, the work is unstable, with an average income of about 280,000–300,000 VND per day (approximately USD 10.8–11.5 per day), depending on the type of work. Employment is irregular, and during the rainy season he is often unemployed.
On a daily basis, Ms. Truc sells grilled rice paper and balut (duck eggs) in front of her house to earn additional income, with an average of around 100,000 VND per day (approximately USD 3.85 per day). As her son is still young, she must stay home to care for and take him to and from school, which prevents her from working far from home or taking on full-time employment.
Given the family’s ongoing financial difficulties, unstable income, frequent medical expenses for her aunt’s treatment, limited cultivated land, and lack of stable livelihoods, Ms. Truc’s family respectfully hopes to receive financial support from the project. This support would enable them to develop sustainable income-generating activities, improve household income, and gradually stabilize their living conditions.
