Neang Sinat

Sinat is a 12-year-old girl currently studying in Grade 4 at Thmea Primary School in Svay Rieng province, Cambodia. She is a bright, talented, and hardworking student who shows strong dedication to her education despite facing many challenges in her daily life.

After school and during her free time, Sinat helps her grandmother with household chores such as cleaning the yard, planting crops, and caring for the home. She understands the difficult situation of her family and always tries to help as much as she can.

Sinat has lived with her grandmother since she was very young because she was abandoned by her parents. Her grandmother, Mrs. Jin Saren, who is 71 years old, has become her sole caregiver. Despite her old age and difficult circumstances, Mrs. Jin Saren has raised Sinat with great love, care, and sacrifice.

Understanding the challenges Sinat faced in traveling to school, her grandmother even sold the family’s chickens to buy an old bicycle from a scrap dealer so that Sinat could go to school more easily. This sacrifice reflects how deeply her grandmother values education and hopes for a better future for her granddaughter.

However, the family’s living conditions remain extremely difficult. Mrs. Jin Saren is responsible for raising two grandchildren alone. Sinat’s older sibling has been disabled since birth and is unable to walk, creating additional emotional and financial pressure on the household. The family has very limited income and struggles to afford daily necessities, healthcare, school supplies, and educational materials.

Despite these hardships, Sinat remains determined to continue her education. She dreams of staying in school and improving her future through learning. However, without external support, there is a high risk that poverty may interrupt her education.
