Sokheng is a poor pupil living in Trapeang Domrey village, Kampong Ampil commune, Romdoul district, Svay Rieng province. In 2025, he is studying in grade 5 at Samroung Primary School and is 11 years old. He is a dedicated and hardworking student.
Every day, Sokheng walks approximately 3 km to school with his friends. Occasionally, if a friend offers him a ride on a bicycle, he accepts, but this is not frequent. When walking, it takes him about 60 minutes to reach school.
Sokheng’s family is extremely poor. They live in a small house and rely on a tiny plot of farmland (0.14 ha) for their livelihood. His mother raises a sow and sells breakfast to earn about $1.25 per day. Sadly, Sokheng’s father passed away three months ago, leaving the family in an even more difficult situation.
Currently, Sokheng lives with his mother, and their household consists of:
- Neang Sreythourn (female, 51 years old) – his mother
- Oeurn Sokheng (male, 11 years old) – a grade 5 student
Despite their hard work, their income is insufficient to cover daily expenses, healthcare costs, and Sokheng’s education.
Each morning, Sokheng wakes up early to help his mother wash dishes before she begins selling breakfast. He lacks essential school supplies, and his clothes are worn-out. He usually studies in the morning and eats breakfast at home before leaving for school. Every day, he brings a bottle of water from home.
Due to family difficulties and transportation issues, Sokheng sometimes arrives late to school and is occasionally absent. However, he recently received a bicycle from CAO, which has significantly improved his ability to attend school regularly. Both he and his mother are deeply grateful to CAO.
In addition, they have requested financial support of $20 per month to help cover the cost of extra classes, which would greatly benefit Sokheng’s education.
