Bros Seavmey is a poor student living in Takot village, Trapeang Sdao commune, Romeas Haek district, Svay Rieng province, Cambodia. In 2026, she is 12 years old and studying in Grade 5 at primary school. Despite her difficult living conditions, Seavmey is known as a polite, hardworking, and motivated student who dreams of continuing her education.
Every day, Seavmey walks nearly 3 kilometers to school, which takes around 50 minutes. Occasionally, she can ride on a friend’s bicycle, but this opportunity is rare. During the rainy season, the road becomes muddy and difficult, causing her to arrive late or sometimes miss school.
Seavmey comes from a very poor family with unstable income. The family owns no rice field land and survives mainly through small-scale farming and temporary labor work. Their income is extremely low, estimated at around $19 per person per month. Her mother left home several years ago and has not returned. Her father works as a construction worker in Bavet city, but his income is irregular and insufficient to fully support the family.
Currently, Seavmey lives with her grandparents and younger brother in a small and modest house. Her grandfather raises a few chickens and cows to help support the household. The family has five members:
- Grandfather
- Grandmother
- Single Father (32 years old, construction worker)
- Bros Seavmey (12 years old, Grade 5 student)
- Younger brother (5 years old)
Because of poverty, the family struggles to cover daily food expenses, healthcare costs, school materials, and transportation. Seavmey often goes to school wearing old clothes and with limited school supplies. Her breakfast usually consists of leftover rice from the previous evening, and she must bring drinking water from home each day.
In addition to her studies, Seavmey helps her grandparents with household chores such as cleaning and caring for the animals before and after school. Although these responsibilities are difficult for a young child, she remains determined to continue studying because she believes education is the only way to improve her future and help her family escape poverty.
Seavmey would also like to attend extra classes to strengthen her learning, but her family cannot afford the additional costs. Without support, there is a high risk that her education may be interrupted due to financial hardship.
