Visal

Visal is one of the poor pupils studying in grade 7 at Pong Toek high school and he is 13 years old. Every day, he walks about 3 km from home to school. His family are farmers with a small house and a small farming land of 0.20 hectares. Their income is $20 per person per month.

Visal’s father is not present because he passed away. He lives with his mother and brother. However, his brother has no one to take care of him, so their mother brings him to their grandmother to take care of him. The father died from a disease, and before he passed away, the family spent a lot of money on treatment, including selling their propertie such as their cows and paddy land. This has left them very poor.

They have never received any support from CAO. Visal does not always get to school on time and sometimes is absent because of family problems and transportation issues. He wants to attend extra classes to improve his skills, but he has no money. Therefore, he requests a bike and a $10 monthly scholarship to help him.
