Yun Lina

Lina is a 13-year-old student from a poor family living in Prek Pork Village, Thnar Thnung Commune, Romdoul District, Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia. In 2026, she is studying in Grade 7. Lina is a good and hardworking student who is eager to continue her education despite the many challenges she faces.

Every day, Lina walks approximately 3 kilometers from her home to school, which takes about 50 minutes. Occasionally, she is able to ride a bicycle with a friend, but this is not always possible. Due to the long distance and transportation difficulties, she sometimes arrives late at school or is absent.

Lina’s family faces serious financial hardship. Her parents are farmers but do not own land for growing rice. The family lives in a small house and has a very limited income of approximately US$22 per person per month. Her mother stays at home to take care of the children, while her father works as a construction worker in Bavet City to support the family.

The family has four members:

  1. Mother: Dear Chaiya, 35 years old
  2. Father: Khun Pich, 35 years old
  3. Yun Lina: 13 years old, Grade 7 student
  4. Yun Liheng: 9 years old, Grade 3 student

Due to their limited income, the family struggles to cover daily expenses, including food, healthcare, and their children’s educational needs.

Lina faces many challenges in her education. Every morning, she wakes up early to help with household chores, such as cleaning the house, before going to school. She does not have sufficient school materials and often wears old clothes to school.

Her breakfast usually consists of leftover rice and food from the previous evening. She also brings a bottle of water from home every day. Because of her family’s financial difficulties and transportation challenges, her school attendance is sometimes irregular.

Despite these difficulties, Lina remains determined to continue her education. She is a hardworking student and wants to attend extra classes to improve her learning. However, her family cannot afford the additional costs of transportation, school uniforms, learning materials, and extra classes.

Request for Support

Lina’s family is requesting US$30 per month to help her continue her education. The support will contribute to:

  • A bicycle to reduce her travel time and help her attend school more regularly.
  • School uniforms so she can attend school with appropriate clothing.
  • Extra classes to strengthen her learning and improve her academic performance.
  • Learning materials such as notebooks, pens, and other essential school supplies.

Your support of US$30 per month would help Lina overcome some of the barriers preventing her from fully participating in her education. It would give her greater confidence and a better opportunity to stay in school, improve her learning, and build a brighter future.
