Ranny is a bright and determined 10-year-old girl studying in Grade 5. She lives in a small rural village in Romdoul district with her parents and older sister. Despite their difficult circumstances, Ranny is full of hope and dreams of a better future.
Her family of four survives on an income of only $20 per person per month. Her father works hard as a construction laborer, often under the scorching sun, to provide for the family. In the evenings, after returning from work, he grows vegetables in their small backyard. Ranny and her mother help water and care for the garden—one of their few sources of nutritious food.
Unfortunately, both Ranny’s mother and sister suffer from chronic health problems and often fall ill. Much of the family’s limited income is spent on healthcare, leaving little for other basic needs. Still, Ranny is eager to study and does her best to keep up in school.
