Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, father of Nguyen Thi My Phuong, is suffering from bladder cancer. At present, he still requires medication and needs to attend follow-up check-ups four times a month. Although the cost of medication is partly covered by health insurance, Mr. Ut still has to spend around 60$ each month on medical supplies (such as gauze, adhesives, urine drainage bags, and consultation fees), putting the family under great financial strain.
The family’s main income comes from selling lottery tickets. Despite his illness, Mr. Ut has taken the initiative to rebuild a chicken coop and started raising chickens to improve their livelihood. He is currently raising 25 healthy chickens.
During the summer break, Phuong helps her father sell lottery tickets, feed the chickens, do housework, and care for him.
Life is full of hardship, and the two rely on each other to get by. She need scholarship to continue her study (12$/month)
