Phan Nguyen Minh Phuc

Phan Nguyen Minh Phuc, a student of class 4A,  Vinh Thuan Dong 3 Primary School, Vinh Thuan Dong Commune, Can Tho city (old name: Long My District, Hau Giang Province). His family currently has 4 people: his parents, he and his younger sister who is preparing to enter grade 1 this year.

His family is in a difficult situation, with no land for production, only a small house of about 100m². Previously, his parents sold small items such as farm products and flowers with an income of about 250,000 VND per day – just enough to cover a simple life. However, at the end of 2023, his father unfortunately suffered a severe stroke and had to be treated at a higher-level hospital in Can Tho at a cost of more than 200 million VND. His family had to sell 2 cows for nearly 40 million VND and asked for help from neighbors, relatives and friends to cover the hospital fees. Currently, his father cannot walk, has to be intubated to breathe and needs a full-time caregiver. Since then, all the family burden has fallen on his mother’s shoulders – taking care of his father and doing business to make a living. Every day, his mother has to wake up at 3am to get goods more than 10km away from home and then sell them around the commune, earning only about 100,000-120,000 VND/day. Meanwhile, his father needs to be re-examined and treated periodically in Can Tho or Vi Thanh at a cost of about 3 million VND/month. The family receives social security support of 1.5 million VND/month, but it is not enough to cover medicine and other expenses. His younger sister often has allergies and has to go to the doctor and get treatment many times. He always attempts to study well, and has been an excellent student for many years, but his studies have encountered many obstacles because of his family’s difficult circumstances. His house is about 1.5km from school, and he has to rely on his grandfather to take him to and from school every day.

The difficulties are compounded when the 2025-2026 school year comes, when his younger sister will also start first grade, which means that the cost of education will double. The minimum cost to take care of the education of the two siblings is about 2 million VND per month – a huge amount compared to the current situation of his family.

With all sincerity and hope, he writes this application to respectfully ask for donors, organizations, groups, and kind-hearted individuals to care, share, and support the study costs for him and his younger sister. He hopes to continue going to school, nurture his dreams, and has the opportunity to overcome difficult circumstances.
