Phạm Như Ý

Phạm Như Ý is a Grade 3A student at Lương Nghĩa 2 Primary School, Lương Tâm Commune, Can Tho City. For this 8-year-old girl, life has been a long journey of hardship. Yet, within those difficulties, a great dream continues to burn brightly.

While many children grow up in the loving arms of their mothers, Như Ý has lived without a mother’s care since she was not yet one year old. Her mother left home and has never contacted the family again. Như Ý has grown up in a small house with her father and paternal grandmother. Years ago, in an effort to pay for her grandfather’s liver cancer treatment, the family had to sell 2,000m2 of rice fields. Sadly, despite their efforts, her grandfather passed away nearly 10 years ago.

Today, the family’s only source of income depends on Như Ý’s father, Mr. Trí. In the past, hoping to earn money to treat his father’s illness, he worked for a paint company in the city. However, he accidentally inhaled paint fumes, which damaged his lungs and caused heart arrhythmia, leaving him unable to continue the job. He returned to his hometown and took on various unstable jobs, earning around 30EUR per month. Recently, however, his health has worsened, and he can no longer do heavy work, forcing him to stay at home. Because of the family’s difficult situation, whenever he falls ill, Như Ý’s father can only go to the local commune health station to receive basic medicine.

Despite her old age, Như Ý’s grandmother continues to shoulder all the household responsibilities by herself. Every day, she rides a bicycle 4 kilometers to take her granddaughter to and from school. She still firmly believes:

“Even though our family is poor, we will do our best to support her education properly. Only education can help my granddaughter have a better life in the future.”

Như Ý’s dream is her heartfelt response to that boundless love:

“I want to become a doctor when I grow up so I can treat my father’s illness and help my grandmother and father have a better life.”

Her dream of becoming a doctor is not just a childhood wish. It is also the family’s hope for breaking free from the cycle of poverty. However, that journey is now at risk of being interrupted by the daily burden of making ends meet.

To help Như Ý continue her education and keep hope alive for her future, we are calling on kind-hearted sponsors to support her with 12 EUR per month in 12 months. This support will help cover her school expenses, books, and learning materials, giving her the chance to continue going to school with confidence.
