Nguyen Ngoc Yen Nhi, born in 2018, is currently a Grade 3 student. She lives with her parents and siblings in a small 50 square meter house. All four children in the family are still pursuing their education. Her eldest brother has just completed Grade 12 and hopes to continue studying in Ho Chi Minh City, while her two older sisters are in Grades 8 and 6.
The family depends mainly on a small garden of around 300 dragon fruit plants. However, harvests and market prices are unpredictable, and the income is not enough to support a family with four children in school. To earn more, both parents take any seasonal work they can find while continuing to care for their crops. School fees, books, uniforms, transportation, and daily expenses therefore place considerable pressure on the family.
Yen Nhi is still young, but she understands how hard her parents work. She is a well behaved and hardworking student who tries her best at school. For her parents, keeping all four children in education is their greatest hope, but also their biggest financial challenge.
Support of 30 EUR per month would help cover Yen Nhi’s school supplies, learning materials, and other essential education costs. Part of the support could also help her parents purchase fertilizer and farming inputs for their dragon fruit garden, improving productivity and strengthening the family’s income. By combining education and livelihood support, the sponsorship would help Yen Nhi stay in school while giving her parents a better chance to support their children through their own work.
