Mai Anh Tin resides with her single mother and faces various challenges, including living in her deteriorating grandmother’s house. The family struggles financially, and Tin’s mother, Mai Thi Han, is a woman of limited means, lacking agility and vitality. Due to her circumstances, Han was exploited, leading to the birth of Tin without the recognition of the father.
To make ends meet, Han sells lottery tickets daily, but her earnings are limited. Additionally, she washes dishes at night stations, earning approximately $0.8 – $1.3 per night. Despite being a child, Tin takes on mature responsibilities, assisting his mother in selling lottery tickets during the summer break to generate extra income for the upcoming school year.
With a family income of $1.15 per person per day, it becomes challenging for them to cover Anh Tin’s daily expenses and tuition fees. A scholarship for Anh Tin would alleviate the family’s financial strain.
