Leakena

Leakena is a bright and determined 10-year-old girl studying in Grade 4 at Samroung Primary School, located in Trapeang Damrei village, Romdoul district, Svay Rieng province. Despite her young age, she has already faced significant challenges in life.

Last year, Leakena’s father passed away after battling a chronic illness. Since then, her mother has taken on the full responsibility of supporting the family. With only a limited education, Leakena’s mother finds it difficult to secure stable employment. She relies on seasonal labor, earning income by harvesting pepper—a job available only about four months a year.

The family’s average monthly income is just €16 per person, which barely covers their basic needs. For Leakena, continuing her education has become increasingly difficult. Her schooling costs around €22 per month, including expenses for school materials such as books, pens, a ruler, a school uniform, and extra classes. These costs are beyond what her mother can afford.

Despite the hardship, Leakena is eager to learn and dreams of one day helping to lift her family out of poverty. To make this possible, the family is seeking a monthly sponsorship of just €9 to help cover part of her educational costs. This small support could make a big difference in keeping her in school and giving her the opportunity for a better future.
