Dang Khoa lives with his single mother, Mrs. Nga, and five siblings. His father passed away two years ago from cancer, leaving the family in deep hardship. The eldest brother, born in 2008, had to quit school to work and support the family during their father’s illness. Three of the children, including Khoa, are still in school (grades 8, 7, and 3), while the youngest baby was born in 2023.
Mrs. Nga is the only breadwinner, relying on 300 dragon fruit pillars given by her parents-in-law. However, in recent years, dragon fruit prices have dropped sharply, leaving her with almost no income. She struggles to care for the baby and pay for her children’s school fees and supplies. On top of that, the family still owes 2,400€ in medical debt from her husband’s treatment.
