30€/monthChhim Channa is a 12-year-old girl currently studying in Grade 6 at Thmea Primary School in Svay Rieng province, Cambodia. She is a bright, diligent, and hardworking student who is committed to her education and dreams of building a better future for herself and her family.
Channa comes from a very poor family facing serious financial difficulties. Despite the hard work of her parents, the household income is unstable and insufficient to meet the family’s daily needs and educational expenses. Her father, Mr. Chhit Youhong, is a 50-year-old construction worker, while her mother, Mrs. Soch Sam Oeun, works in a factory. Their earnings are low and unpredictable, making it difficult to provide consistent support for their children’s education.
Channa has two siblings, including her older brother, Chhim Bunthiang, who is 16 years old. Sadly, due to the family’s financial hardship, he was forced to drop out of school because the family could not afford school supplies and related costs. He made the painful sacrifice of leaving school so that his younger sister could continue her studies.
After school and during her free time, Channa helps her grandmother grow vegetables to sell at the local market. The small income earned from this activity helps support the family’s daily living expenses. Although she faces many challenges and responsibilities at a young age, Channa remains determined to continue her education because she believes it is the key to improving her future.
However, without external support, Channa is at high risk of dropping out of school, just like her brother. The family struggles to afford school supplies, uniforms, clothing, transportation, and other essential educational needs.
