Discovering the Mekong

The journey kicks off in Ho Chi Minh City, where you’ll be welcomed into the bustling streets, vibrant markets, and rich history of Saigon. Your exploration extends to significant historical sites, including the War Remnants Museum, Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, Saigon Opera House, and Ben Thanh Market, providing a glimpse into the city’s great history.

Rather than being a distant observer, you become an integral part of initiatives designed to uplift local communities. Travelling with our bamboo bikes, from one project to another, guided by the knowledgeable Mekong Plus teams, you immerse yourself in the dynamics and needs of the communities.

A cornerstone of Mekong Plus’s mission is agricultural development, with countless training sessions benefitting thousands of participants in farming, animal husbandry, and fishery. The introduction of innovative models like greenhouse vegetable cultivation, garden netting, and biogas systems fosters sustainable practices, transforming livelihoods.

Education is another impactful realm for Mekong Plus. Over 21,000 scholarships have been awarded to underprivileged students, ensuring increased school attendance. Health education programs, including dental and respiratory health activities, have touched the lives of 14,663 preschoolers and 29,776 primary school students.

Mekong Plus’s commitment to gender issues and domestic violence prevention is evident through training sessions and safe spaces that have assisted 211 women. Legal support for six cases contributes to a safer and more equitable community. Gender education and life skills programs in 15 secondary schools have trained 20,634 students.

An artisanal endeavour that shines is Mekong Quilts, transforming traditional craftsmanship into a source of sustainable income. Employing dozens of women, Mekong Quilts creates handcrafted products like bed quilts, water hyacinth bags, bamboo bicycles, and more. Beyond preserving heritage, this project becomes a conduit for economic resilience within the community.
