Ho Thi Mai Vy is currently a senior in high school. The family unit consists of four members, inclusive of her paternal grandparents, Vy, and her cousin. Vy’s early life was marked by her parents’ divorce, leaving her in the care of her grandparents since the age of three. The 5-year-old cousin, dealing with a congenital intellectual disability, was similarly abandoned by his parents.
The two grandparents, Ho Quoc Nam and Pham Thi Truong, sustain the family by vending beverages at the market, yielding an income of approximately $4 – $6 per day. Additionally, they receive social assistance amounting to $54 monthly. In order to contribute to her education, Vy frequently engages in part-time work during the summer, tending to dragon fruit gardens.
Vy is on track to complete her high school education in two years. However, the absence of external support places a significant burden on her aspirations, particularly her dream of becoming a journalist and providing assistance to her family. Financial challenges loom large, making it imperative to extend support to Vy’s educational pursuits and future career goals.
