In 1994 Gilberte DO-HUU and Robert EBERHARDT visited Vietnam and particularly the work of Bernard KERVYN and his wife Thanh TRUONG. They were friends: they had known each other since they were involved in the « Frères des Hommes » NGO, when Gilberte and Robert were in France, while Bernard was in Bangladesh...
This reunion of old friends, in the middle of the Vietnamese countryside and of their crying needs, soon led to the will to build something together. On the corner of a table in Hô Chí Minh City, propositions for names for a new NGO were thrown. While they were at it, they created Vietnam Plus, a French association under the French Law of Associations 1901.
Thanh has a strong network of friends in the Vietnamese community in Paris. For a long time, she helped the boat people with their integration in France; there are also Vietnamese groups anxious to make something for their country and to protect their culture. Robert is very active in community life. Lastly, Bernard has kept a network of friends of the time when he worked in Bangladesh. Therefore, quickly enough, a core group was created, motivated and friendly, and in any case very convivial.
